Social Distancing for Social Occasions
Make the most of your summer and outside spaces while social distancing.
Summer is here and temperatures are trending upward motivating us to get outside and enjoy the weather. We really don’t need nice weather as most of us are ready to get out of the house now that the Shelter-In-Place order is lifted and non-essential businesses are slowly opening back up. If you haven’t been out to your favorite restaurant, store, or park we have some great suggestions for you that also keeps you safe with social distancing.
Lakes, rivers, creeks, and even beaches are calling your name. Air out your camping gear, clean off your kayak or paddle board, and go enjoy some of the best bodies of water in Texas. Boat owners can enjoy a day on Lake Travis or Lake Austin with their families. Kayakers, paddle boarders, and para-sailers can enjoy the peaceful current down Colorado River stopping at Zilker Park or other tie ups along the shores. Many state parks and open spaces require reservations as they are helping keep you safe by limiting attendance to facilitate social distancing in this places, so be sure to visit their websites for details to plan your hike. One of our favorites is Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.
If you haven’t enjoyed the picnic area provided by Angel’s Icehouse or some of the local wineries in Travis County like Bell Springs Winery (Dripping Springs), Flat Creek Estate (Marble Falls), or El Gaucho Winery (Spicewood), then you’re missing out on great food and entertainment, wine, and some spectacular views of Hill Country. However, for those of you staying close to home, maybe entertaining neighbors is more your speed.
It’s time for a backyard garden renovation! Most homeowners with backyards also have concrete or wood deck patios for relaxing. Think about rearranging that existing patio furniture or better yet, renew your outside living space with some new pieces. We love the selections and materials at Anthony’s Patio located on Burnet. Peruse options from suppliers like Brown Jordan, Forever Patio, or Harmonia Living. And if you find yourself in need of a new grill or smoker, check out BBQ Outfitters, located on North 620 in Austin TX, for the latest models.
Some key factors making your outdoor space comfortable, inviting, and easy to maintain takes into account how you use your backyard space, who you share it with, and materials/covers you use. If you like to lounge in comfortable seating, then cushions that you can sink into is what you’re looking for. If you like to enjoy meals, then you’ll want to set up a beautiful table ready for entertaining. And you may even have enough room for both—separate seating and larger table size will help you maintain distance with friends without the obvious awkwardness that it brings. Be sure to use easy to clean washable outdoor fabrics for cushions & pillows. But invest in high quality pieces for longevity and durability. Wood like acacia, bamboo, and teak are warm & inviting and make a great foundations for furniture—check out Gloster. Other natural materials to use include rattan, cane, raffia, and grasscloths. And to anchor each space consider a unique obscure shaped rug; it’s like having art on the floor! Visit The Oriental Rug Gallery of Texas located in Bee Cave. A trend that we have enjoyed is a new online company called Ruggable. Let nature be your inspiration with colors and patterns with old-world tropical prints & plants mixed with glam modern tones in blacks, greens, peachy corals, or golden yellows. Most importantly invest in covers for your furniture (& TV!), so that you can enjoy these items for years to come.
We would love to help you with your backyard renovation. We source products from high-end manufacturers, so you can invest in pieces that are long-lasting, eco-friendly, and made of sustainable materials that you’ll love.
